Kevin Love Goes Streaking

In Uncategorized on December 5, 2010 at 11:05 pm

Kevin Love has strung together 6 consecutive games with at least 15 total rebounds. He’s currently tied with Tyson Chandler for the longest 15+ rebound streak since Ben Wallace put together 14 consecutive games covering March to April, 2003.

Love’s next game is Monday, Dec. 6th @ the Knicks. He’ll have a solid opportunity to move into a tie with Dikembe Mutombo for 3rd longest streak this decade. Both teams attempt a lot of shots (New York ranks 13th in FGA; Minnesota ranks 1st) and the Knicks are often out-rebounded (NY ranks 21st in team rebounding differential (-1.4); MIN (+4.6) ranks 1st).  …Who says Knicks fans don’t have any games worth watching?

Streaks with 15+ total rebounds from 00-01 to 10-11, in the regular season

Rank Player Start End Games

3 Dikembe Mutombo 2000-12-19 2001-01-02 7
4 Tyson Chandler 2007-02-07 2007-02-20 6
4 Kevin Love 2010-11-22 2010-12-04 6
13 Elton Brand 2002-02-18 2002-02-26 5
13 Kevin Garnett 2006-02-08 2006-02-15 5

13 Marcus Camby 2008-12-30 2009-01-06 5

Note: 33 players had streaks of 4 games

Historical side note:

From 89-90 to 94-95 there were 28 streaks fitting the criteria; 94-95 to 99-00 saw 17 such streaks. However, it’s possible this decade (00-01 to 10-11) will finish with just 13 streaks.   Therein lays the dominance of Dennis Rodman, who owned a sizable majority of these streaks.

Love currently leads the league this season in TRB% with 24.17; well above the line of absolute rebounding dominance (LARD) set by Rodman’s career TRB% (23.44). If Love keeps pace, he’ll be the first player to play a full season above the LARD since Rodman in 97-98.

Update: Kevin Love went 10 consecutive games with 15+ TRB. It ended in a Dec. 14th game @GSW in which Love pulled down 14 REB. He does have a new streak going… His 11 consecutive games with 14+ TRB is the 2nd longest such streak since the 99-00 season and 4 games longer than anyone else in the past 5 seasons.
